Istrancakadın Women's Cooperative

Projects

This corner may look quiet for now. We call it a beginning.

  • ✓ Ideas gathered — Istranca has never run short of those
  • ✓ Sleeves rolled up — more than seven pairs of arms at the ready
  • ✓ Direction set — education, workshop, partnership
  • … The first project is brewing — good things take time; cooperatives take a little longer

You'll hear about our first project here first. Until then, our door is open to anyone with an idea, support or simple curiosity.

Projects We Partner In

Forever Flower — A Model Taking Root in Soil, in Knowledge, in Women

Our cooperative serves as an official supporter of the Forever Flower project in Kırklareli. The project brings a new breath to the climate-weary soil of Thrace — one that sustains both nature and the producer: cultivation of native, resilient plants with high economic value. Women carry that breath — and Istrancakadın is the name of that labor in Kırklareli.

Education

Hands-on training for our members in the cultivation of climate-resilient, high-value species — from Rosa damascena to saffron, from mountain tea to linden. So that hands that have known the soil for years can learn and own a new model of production.

Seedling & seed donation

Seedlings and seeds from the demonstration site's first harvest will be donated to participating cooperatives. This training will not stay on paper; it will become the women's own soil.

Women's employment & added value

Members' participation in value-added production will be supported; the first step toward founding their own enterprises — and keeping the fruits of their own labor in their own hands — will be made easier.

A network of women's cooperatives

Alongside the Kırklareli Commodity Exchange, the Kırklareli Beekeepers' Association, Kırklareli University and the Atatürk Soil and Water Institute, we join the Nurdağı Women's Enterprise Cooperative and the Atmalı Women's Cooperative from the earthquake region, and the International Rumeli Women's Association — part of a women's solidarity stretching from Thrace to Anatolia.

"Women's participation in production will grow stronger, and the first step toward launching their own local enterprises will be made easier."

What We Do

Education Programmes

Skill courses in sewing, embroidery, felt, ceramics and food production; training in literacy, computing, entrepreneurship, leadership and women's rights. Our aim: for every member to gain the means to stand on her own feet.

Production & Handcraft

Producing, promoting and marketing our members' handmade products — from food to ceramics, from felt to jewellery — at home and abroad. Production is the heart of our cooperative.

Social Projects

Childcare and education, women's health screenings, environmental awareness work and street-animal protection projects. A cooperative works not only for its members, but for the community it lives in.

Partnerships

Joint projects with public institutions, local governments, development agencies, professional bodies and civil society. Producing together doesn't stop at the local.
